Russell Conwell Milnor Jr., age 96, of West Grove, Pennsylvania, passed away on Friday, February 27, 2026. Born on December 9, 1929, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was a devoted husband to Rose “Posey” C. Milnor and a loving father to Ryan C. Milnor and R. Caroline Milnor.
Russ lost his mother at an early age and was raised by his grandmother and aunt. His many cousins were like siblings, and he treasured the memories formed working in the family candy store, where his lifelong love of fine chocolate began.
Active by nature, Russ loved both watching and playing sports, especially tennis, basketball, and football. His sense of adventure and appreciation for the outdoors were evident in the countless hikes, canoeing and sailing trips, and long-distance travels that shaped his life. One memorable canoe trip led to the purchase of land along the Elk River—a place that became his most beloved home.
Russ’s passions also included music, art, and architecture. His creativity guided him into a career as an architect, with many years spent at the Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority. Drafting, construction, and exploring buildings—whether for work or pleasure—were constants throughout his life.
Russ and Posey met through mutual friends, soon married, and began their family. Their time raising Ryan and Caroline was split between Philadelphia and Elkton, with countless summer weekends spent swimming and boating on the river among family and friends. After retirement, “The Elk” became their full‑time residence.
Russ delighted in being a grandfather. He was always eager to hold a grandchild and took great joy in the accomplishments of John, Brooke, and Cate.
In 2018, Russ and Posey moved to Jenners Pond Retirement Community in West Grove, where he passed away with his cherished wife of 59 years by his side. He is survived by his children, Ryan and Caroline, son‑in‑law Craig Reynolds, and his adored grandchildren, John, Brooke, and Cate.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, 109 E. Doe Run Road, Unionville, PA 19374. Visitation and a reception with family and friends will follow the service in the Church Hall. Burial will be private.
